sushi night

we eat deconstructed sushi almost every week, but we rarely take the time to make maki. when this does happen, it feels like such a treat- a celebration. the other night we had nothing specific to celebrate just spending time with GREAT friends.

we rolled up:
carrots
avocado
cucumber
pear
spicy tempeh
blistered almonds
homemade sauerkraut
sweet potato tempura
sesame seeds

it was lovely!

storytelling

i love listening to suki talk when she draws- she likes to tell me all the details of the elaborate stories she makes up, as she moves her markers around the paper. lately though, she has been more interested in watching other people create the visual narrative- she likes to guide you by telling you what to draw. it is quite fun, yet often difficult to keep up. this is a drawing made with her caregiver sara. i love that sara's solution to drawing a list of about five people was to make a house- they are all in the house together! it is important to be creative in situations like that, and sara is the best.
`
standing by the house is suki, corduroy, and koji (our dog).

POP!

one of our favorite snacks is popcorn. we usually make a big batch once or twice a week and keep it in a bag in the cupboard for snacking. we rarely buy chips because this is a much healthier and tastier treat. here are a few different variations we make, created by adam.

all are made with:
2 T coconut oil
1/2 C organic popcorn
once popped add:
1/4 C nutritional yeast flakes
1 T salt

then add any of the variations:
A) 1 T granulated garlic, 1 T thyme
B) 3 T sesame seeds, 1 t. ginger powder
C) 1 T chili powder, 1 t oregano
D) 1 T basil, 2 T lemon zest

enjoy!
