predictions for snow

the weather report shows that snow is on the way. yay, more hot cocoa time coming up! suki has been dreaming of making a snowman and a "snowboy". i can't wait to see her face when we make her first snowman (and boy). it will be adam's first snowman, too. he is from california.

p.s. what do you like to listen to on snow days? i am putting together a snow day mix, and i hope to figure out a way to share it with you. this will be on the list.

  1. snow songs:

summer babe and how to rent a room are especially important to me. i will always remember driving late at night from the suburbs of grand rapids to a coffee shop in eastown very late at night with my best friend colin. he would typically play slanted and enchanted or the natural bridge and i had never heard either record before. i grew to know and love both records exclusively through these drives and they have been two of my favorite records ever. colin moved away after high school and is rarely around now, so these album (and these two songs, specifically) make me feel like he's around again, like i'm still very young and growing up. of course all these drives were in the dead of winter, in 2006. 11 pm to 4 am.

The daytrotter sessions with The Walkmen...all Leonard Cohen covers. Great winter music.

  3. hope snow comes soon for you! as you know, i pretend snowstorms into existence here, for which music is essential. i like to listen to sigur ros, esp this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UeuvegBZFuM

marketa irglova of the swell season has a new album out, which is becoming a seasonal favourite.

this whole album by timbre: http://timbre.bandcamp.com/album/winter-comes-to-wake-you

she has a christmas album too, heavy and somber and spiritual in the best way possible.

  4. thank you for all of the tunes. i am going to listen to these tomorrow while we are decorating our first christmas tree.

royl space- i will tell you sometime how much i can relate to your story.
